Kingston MobileLite Wireless G2

Kingston's wireless access tool turns out to be a winner. For under $50 (usually under $40) you can't beat the utility of the the MobileLite Wireless G2. It opens up a world of sharing amongst mobile devices that have the app installed on them. In addition to opening up the world of sharing, it helps keep your devices powered by offering you 4640 mAh battery backup. See how I use this thing in my home...

Ultimately, this is a good investment for those considering purchasing a battery backup solution. There are some quirks to the system however. The one that sticks out to me most is the one USB port. This is problematic when you want to stream media and charge a device - you just can't do it. It's one or the other. The solution I found is loading media strictly onto a SD card and using that as your media port. A bit of a hassle, but a solution nonetheless.

Pros:

  • Sharing and reading your content across devices.
  • Battery backup option.
  • Hotspot capabilities.

Cons:

  • Doesn't read all formats of files (RAW files for example do not preview in the app).
  • Battery backup is fairly small for what you would expect from a device like this.
  • One USB port, you can either stream media from the USB or charge a device. This is a problem when you want to do both - you simply cannot!
